It is considered to be the fundamental basis for western legal codes and moral values. The term refers in particular to the Old Testament, a basis of both moral and legal traditions, and particularly on the Ten Commandments.

It implies a common set of values present in the modern Western World.

Christians use new testament scriptures along with doctrines like monotheism, the belief in the Messiah and the use of the Psalms in community prayer. Christianity removed many fundamental Jewish practices, among them the Jewish covenant on male circumcision, the keeping of the Sabbath and most of the law and traditions of the Oral Torah.

One of the most significant early Christian teachers was Paul of Tarsus, a converted Christian and Roman citizen. He among others practiced Judeo-Christian beliefs.

In addition, even though the order of the books in the Jewish and Christian Old Testament are different, the books are completely the same. The majority of the Christian Old Testament is Jewish Scripture. The same prophets, heroes and patriarchs are the same in both Christianity and Judaism. A vast amount of Jewish and Christian teaching is based upon the same inspiration.

Some Jewish and Christian theologians question the appropriateness of the term and suggest that it is essentially an invention of American politics. It has been suggested that the term obscures the differences between the two religions.

Another reason is that it erases the continuities between these religions and other monotheistic faiths like Muslim faiths. It has been suggested that the term Judeo-Muslim to describe the middle-east culture against western Christian culture would be more appropriate in today’s time. Others refer to a Judeo-Christian-Muslim concept that refers to the three monotheistic religions that root to the Babylonian civilization, commonly known as Abrahamic Religions.
